The Bank: A 'Living Room' For The Village.

In 2006, NDT acquired the former Clydesdale Bank branch in Main Street under Community Right to Buy provisions. It was fully run by volunteers until, with major refurbishment and funding complete, it reopened in December 2011. There were two community spaces on the ground floor; first floor housed the Trust’s offices, and two rented spaces, including the HQ for Neilston First Responders. Back and front, the garden is lovingly tended by our gardening volunteers, and the Bike Hub is out back, carefully disguised in a collection of sheds and containers, with NDT Cycling’s colourful electric van plugged in – a busy spot!

In 2020 we saw an even bigger refurbishment to the building. Unfortunately, prior to national  Covid-19 lockdown, we suffered from an electrical fire, resulting in the building being closed. This caused a delay in the process, but we are now there! There is now lots of exciting things happening at The Bank and we will keep you up to date with what is still to come!

The Bank Café has been a joyful addition to village life for many years. The café space is shared by groups and meetings, with the occasional pop-up cafe’s and supper clubs. We like to run our events inline with zero waste Scotland guidelines.
